STORY OF THE MONTH

Telecommunications store – Scarborough, ON – January 10

Four suspects committed a robbery at an electronics phone store. They stole 60 to 70 phones, which included a Phone Tracker device, and fled the scene. The group entered a nearby wooded area and discarded the merchandise in a duffle bag. Phone Tracker automatically alerted police and tracked the stolen goods, leading police to the suspects. All four thieves were arrested, and over $70,000 in phones were recovered. This group is responsible for similar crimes, and this successful arrest ends their criminal activity.

Convenience Store – Greenville, MS – January 1
Full Recovery; 1 arrests
A suspect entered a convenience store and committed a robbery. He advanced behind the counter and stole cartons of product, including a Tobacco Tracker in his loot. The GPS tracking device tracked away from the gas station until it became stationary, where police found the suspect, apprehended them, and recovered all of the store assets.

ATM – Memphis, TN – January 2
$80,000 – Full Recovery
In the early morning hours, a suspect drove their vehicle into an ATM and significantly damaged it, hoping to access the cash. An ATM Tracker was activated and alerted local police of the crime in progress. With police closing in, the suspects fled the scene empty-handed.

Athletic Apparel Store – New York, NY – January 3
$3,000 – Full Recovery; 1 arrest
A lone male entered an athletic clothing store and grabbed a stack of clothing, including an ORC Tracker. The male fled a few blocks before boarding a transit bus. Patrol units tracked the device’s location and subsequently boarded the bus. They observed a male who fit the thief’s description, made an arrest, and fully recovered all the merchandise.

Credit Union – Abington, PA – January 9
Full Recovery; 1 arrest
A suspect entered a credit union and committed an armed robbery. They fled the scene shortly after, and a stolen Cash Tracker device alerted local law enforcement and the 3SI Tracking Center of its current tracking location. The suspect fled on foot but was soon caught by police and taken into custody.

Beauty Store – Glen Allen, VA – January 11
$1,000 – Full Recovery; 1 arrest
Three individuals were involved in a series of shoplifting incidents, stealing merchandise worth over $1000. They inadvertently took a tracker, allowing for continuous monitoring of the suspects’ location. This track led to a coordinated response involving the 3SI Tracking Center and law enforcement units, culminating in the suspects’ arrest following a pursuit. The suspects, believed to be part of an organized retail crime group, will face multiple felony charges. The operation resulted in no injuries and marked a significant blow to the retail crime ring!

Dollar Store – Chicago, IL – January 18
$145 Full Recovery; 1 arrest
An armed suspect robbed a dollar store, stealing $145 in cash, which included a Cash Tracker. 3SI and law enforcement tracked down and apprehended the suspect, all within 10 minutes. The suspect was on federal probation and faces charges including armed robbery and possession of a firearm. Police recovered all of the stolen items and arrested the suspect.

Pharmacy – Philadelphia, PA – January 22
Full Recovery; 1 arrest
A lone suspect, armed with a knife, robbed a store by threatening the clerk and demanding all their money, along with a Cash Tracker from the register. The clerk complied, and the suspect fled on foot, activating the tracker and relaying his location to the local PD and 3SI Tracking Center. The suspect was quickly located by attempting to elude capture in an alleyway, thanks to the 3SI GPS device. The suspect had a history of violent crimes, and this event led to the end of his criminal career. The stolen money was recovered and returned to the store.
